To maintain a safe and harmonious environment at our dog park, we’re going to begin enforcing our 3 strikes policy in earnest and we are going to rely on park patrons and our managers/trainers to help us do it.
To be frank about it, though it’s rare, there have been reports over the years of dogs that are too wild and rough for the dog park or owners that don’t care what their dog is doing or to clean up after their dogs. We have been too lax about strict rule enforcement in the park or offering educational remediation to those that we know could use it. This is not the type of dog park we want to be. These events, even though they are non-frequent, might scare away some customers that would have been great park patrons and as a result, their dog doesn’t get to be a Poochie’s dog.
We will no longer let bad behavior (from dogs or humans) continue after a warning and an offer to help has been made.
We will be putting signs, like the one below, around the park to remind everyone of proper dog park etiquette and of our 3 strikes policy. We will be relying on park patrons to let us know if they did not have a good time during their visit with an easy text to our managers.
And that’s not all we’re doing…
Our goal is to keep our dog park a place where well behaved dogs of a friendly nature (and their humans) come to play, socialize and now…LEARN. Often times, the dog or person just needs some advice or training. An act of what we consider bad etiquette is never the dog’s fault, it’s the situations that the dog park environment creates. The dog is handling the situation in the way they feel is the best they can do with the natural instincts they have combined with the training ques they get from their owner. We’ll be offering free advice and also resources for more training for those that are seeking a new understanding and better relationship with their dog. We’ll be promoting education and training from within Poochie’s with our in house professionals that run our “Lil’ Scouts Friendly Dog Training” business. We will also be welcoming in any outside training companies that share the same goal of making the dog park a place where well behaved dogs and owners can share the joys of off leash play.
Thank you for your understanding and especially your help keeping Poochie’s Park a safe and clean place for dogs and the people who love them!
